My ExperienceAs an intern, it's important to first learn how to properly communicate with professionals. As students we had to complete at least two informational interviews with potential internship professionals. Once that's done, the task of finding an internship can prove to be challenging for some. As an intern, my primary responsibility was to learn about the organization and profession, and identify my strengths and talents within those structures. The goal for students is to design and execute a project that contributes to the workplace, while connecting their learning to the professional world. Internships offer an excellent opportunity for finding new knowledge, exploring career interests, and learning from a mentor. During my LINK internship, I took a different approach and decided to learn about cars, something I had no prior knowledge of, but could benefit me in the future. Throughout the internship, I observed and learned from my mentor and the other technicians working in the shop while doing my best to assist them. My first few days were spent watching Ryan, a technician at Durango Car Care, replace a front differential on a Jeep. This experience was truly eye-opening as to what goes on inside an auto repair shop.

From being unable to change a tire to helping popping out an old ball joint, and installing the new ball joint using tools such as a ball joint press kit and a ball joint separator or in our case a mallet. I got to see so many different problems that can happen, and they happen to every car at some point so there is no avoiding it. There are so many different components to not just the car itself but to fixing a car as well; so many different sockets, wrenches, pliers, torque wrenches, nuts, blots, and screw, and then from there comes more diversity with the sizes. If your car has a problem, there's a tool out there to fix it.
